Semen Freezing Dates

Good day

A representative from Dr Shuttleworth’s practise will be collecting semen from dogs for freezing purposes on 2,3 and 4 May 2018. If you wish to freeze semen from dogs for possible export purposes, we need to know which country it will possibly go to. This is because different countries have different rules and regulations and diseases they wish the stud to be tested for BEFORE the semen is collected. We further advise that dogs that have not been tested in the prior six months need to be tested in the preceding two weeks before freezing. This confirms that the dog can be collected, and it confirms whether the dog has semen that is of adequate quality for freezing purposes. The cost of such examination is R750 per dog if semen is not frozen.

Following semen freezing Rant En Dal Animal Hospital will take care of transportation to a semen bank where it will be stored indefinitely till the owners want to use it. The semen bank will either be Vet Fertility Technologies johanita@vetfertility.co.za or Vriesit elize@vriesit.com and storage fees can be obtained from them.

The cost for freezing semen is R2800.00 for the first ejaculate and R2200.00 if the client wishes to do a second ejaculate on the same or next day. The recommendation is to do two ejaculates. The client will be notified on the day of semen collection whether the semen is of adequate quality for freezing purposes. The client will be notified within a few days of collection whether the semen indeed did freeze well. Please remember that in some dogs the semen may be of excellent quality prior to freezing and may indeed freeze poorly. In contrast semen that is of poor quality to start off with will always be worse after freezing and it is therefore not worth pursuing preservation of such samples.

Note: clients with breeds that have a tendency to be nervous are advised to bring the male with a female on heat on the day of the collection.

Clients wishing to freeze their dogs on above dates must please confirm a booking by replying to this mail to reports@rantendal.co.za.

Due to the fact that we have to make a lot of arrangements and mobilise a number of professionals in this endeavour and because a large number of clients that did indeed make bookings but never arrived on the day, we will only confirm a booking for a dog for which a R2000.00 deposit has been paid and confirmation of such payment as well as registration documentation for the stud has been sent to reports@rantendal.co.za  before the 2nd of May 2018.

All above information and prices are for clients wishing to have semen collected by Dr Rachel Shuttleworth on the dates stated above.

For clients wishing to use Rant En Dal Animal Hospital for freezing, which will be arranged with a weeks’ notice, contact us directly on 011 660 3110/9 or reports@rantendal.co.za.
