Spinal mishap

I was fortunate enough to be the proud owner of a dachshund, Kaylee. The sweetest, most gentle dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning. One day, when she was about 4 years old, in 2007, I noticed she wasn’t very active and was battling to walk, her hind legs were buckling under her when she walked.

I took her to the Rant en Dal Animal Hospital and they immediately performed a myelogram, finding that she had damaged her spine. Kaylee was operated the same day. She was in hospital for 13 days. Gradually she regained the use of her back legs and her little tail eventually started to wag again. I was very fortunate that the Rant en Dal Animal hospital gave me free access to see her at any time of the day, not restricting me to visiting hours. I exercised her in their garden and in the beginning when she started to walk again she hopped like a bunny. On day 13 she was discharged with Valium to keep her calm. The doctor and staff had treated her like a queen.

The operation was a complete success and she recovered completely and one would never even guess that she had had a back operation.

Sadly on 31 July 2017 Kaylee had to be put to sleep. Not because of any issues with her back but due to her old age she had become blind. I was broken hearted to say goodbye to a tiny dog with the heart of a lion, that I had loved so much, but thanks to God and The Rant en Dal Animal Hospital we had an extra 10 years of absolute joy and pleasure together. I am so grateful for the help that the staff gave me and for their wisdom and skill. If I had to do it all over again, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Thank you Doctors
